Formulate and stamp indelibly on your mind a mental picture of yourself as succeeding. Hold this picture tenaciously. Never permit it to fade. Your mind will seek to develop the picture... Do not build up obstacles in your imagination. Author: Norman Vincent Peale
The mind has the power to make us or break us. Even our emotions, though associated with the heart, originate there. From the moment the brain is formed, it accumulates data which will influence our every thought and action for the rest of our lives and it's supplied constant input with each moment that we breathe. If there were not a process by which the organ assimilated, stored, and utilized this data, imagine the thoughts and impulses you'd be attacked by never being able to formulate and direct an individual cohesive thought. It would be a world of confusion. Many of us are that way anyway.
While the mind has power, it also gives us the ability to have power over it. It is up to us in which way we allow that data to be used. We often don't leash the power of all that stored information and make it work for us. Instead, we refuse to focus with determined thought and allow the subconsicous to work against us.
It is possible to allow the thoughts to roam. We do it often during sleep, relaxation, meditation, and daydreams. However, when a task is at hand we focus and direct our thoughts towards accomplishment. Why then is it so difficult to do so on a personal basis; or why do we refuse to? How many of us are deterred from our goals by our inability to let go of the lesser thoughts which exist in our minds? Do we intentionally create mental obstacles for ourselves where none truly exist?
