Another day almost gone

It's a beautiful day here in the south. The temperature is mild, a breeze is blowing, the sun is shining with blue skies despite a small amount of rain earlier. Walking outside alone a while ago listening to the breeze rustle through the leaves on the trees, I found the inner peace which always comes with a solitary commune with nature. Squirrels scampered from tree to tree with pecans gripped in their jaws preparing themselves for the coming winter. Birds of different species were audibly making their presence known despite my inability to actually see them amongst the tree branches. Stopping by the pear trees to pick a few choice ones for home, I watched as the insects buzzed their way from one to another piece of fruit, spied worm holes, and discovered the tracks of deer and other unknown animals where they'd come to feed during the night. Ants had found the ripened fruit which had fallen to the ground. Soon, the fruit would be gone with nature's creatures having made use of it all. Shaking the branches brought to me the pears which my inadequate height threatened to deny me. As one hit the ground, it startled a rabbit who'd been hiding nearby causing him to hop hurriedly away from me where he then took cover in some tall grass and watched me curiously but warily. It came to mind how self-sustaining we could be for everything has been provided for us and could be right outside our door if we took advantage of it. Gardens which were once the norm are now lost to the busy pace of the day and the convenience of grocery stores. Where once communities were built along a ready source of water, it now has to be piped in to us. Of course, the population is much greater than it once was. hmm I wonder about the distance we've put between ourselves and that life which naturally sustains us all. It seems the further we get from it, the less healthy we all become. The busier and more harried our lives become, the more we rely on synthetic means of coping and too often lose ourselves within the confusion of keeping pace. Ah well, daylight remains though the shadows deepen and I should return to the gathering of relatives before they begin departing. I hope for you a beautiful week ahead. Be safe.
