Defining moments

Defining moments…

those moments in life which bring you up short causing you to reflect and take stock of your current placement with regards to where and who you want to be.

There are many such moments in life…the birth of a child, having a diploma placed in your hand, being passed over for a promotion, the death of someone meaningful to you, a close brush with your own mortality, or just a sudden burst of stark awareness.

In those moments, life seems ultra-clarified and a sense of purpose overtakes you. Possibilities may suddenly seem boundless and obstacles surmountable. Unfortunately, despite that renewed sense of purpose, we often allow the moment to lapse and another day passes into the year, the moment remembered but the urgency waned.

Why don’t we listen to that voice of life-altering intuition and where would we be if we did listen to it?

As I sit here now, I’m thinking that maybe those moments have to do with maturation and that perhaps there are imperceptible changes made within whether we exhibit anything outwardly. Perhaps, though we don’t make any major changes to our lives following those moments, there’s enough of a change of thought and feeling to redirect us in imperceptible ways.

Another thought…though I’ve found acceptance with many areas of my life, I know that if I’d devote the measure of commitment to myself that I’ve given to others in my life, I’d certainly gain more momentum toward total contentment. If my life isn’t what I want it to be, as I’ve said so often, then it’s up to me to change it. I’ve enough defining moments stored up to direct my path. : )

Also, kudos to those individuals who, when having those defining moments, find they have no regrets and are content that they are indeed who and where they want to be.
